A Continuing Battle: Remembering 9/11

 For almost two months Muslim forces laid siege to the city of Vienna. Their objective was far larger than a city. It was in fact the defeat of Europe and an end to the Christian world. Fortunately it was not to be. The army of the Holy Roman Empire and the commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania defeated the much larger Army of the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Vienna, September 11-12. By coincidence or intention the date of September 11 witnessed two significant events in the thousand year long history of religious conflict between Christians and Muslims. I doubt we have seen the last conflict as such history demands remenbrance and vigilance. 

Muslim Conquest And The Meaning Of September 11

In 1683 Muslim forces laid siege to the city of Vienna for almost two months. Their objective was far larger than a city. It was in fact the defeat of Europe and an end to the Christian world. On September 11 the Moslem Turks and Tartars repeatedly skirmished with the far-inferior Christian forces. It was the culmination of a regional siege in which Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa executed 30,000 Christians who would not convert. His thoughts of victory would not be realized. On the following day the army of the Holy Roman Empire and the commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania defeated the much larger Army of the Ottoman Empire in what we know as the Battle of Vienna,  You can read more about this complex battle at the link. With their defeat the 300 year-long Muslim effort to conquer Europe, one that included a first siege by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1529, came to an end.

Obama Channels Ethelred

Almost fifty years ago, Professor Gordon, English through and through, made OTR's study of the History of England most enjoyable. One of the professor's favorite references throughout the year was Ethelred the Unready.   Ethelred was more "ready" than his name implied; however, we do remember him today for his decade-long payment of tribute - protection money - to the King of Denmark. Eventually the payment wasn't enough to keep the Danes from invading England and forcing Ethelred to flee across the English Channel to safety in Normandy. There's more to this history, but more significant for us these days is the parallel between Ethelred's protection money and Obama's appeasement to the insanity of Islamic jihad. Those in the know should have their money on jihad. Victor Davis Hanson - classicist, war historian, and date farmer - has a fine analysis of the foreign policy disaster that has unfolded over the last four years.  

Will The Obama Administration Stop Its Blockbuster "Kill Bin Laden" Movie To Stem The Raging Muslim Madness?

The Obama administration still believes a hilariously bad amateur anti-Muslim video lies at the root of the recent Islamist madness. That raises the question of what Obama's deep thinkers intend to do about the upcoming release of Zero Dark Thirty, Hollywood's multimillion dollar feature film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden. Will they pressure Sony to keep this film in the can?  Unlike the amateur production, the administration's fingerprints are all over ZDT, regardless of any unprecedented access to classified information and Defense or CIA personnel.

The film is scheduled for a December 19, 2012 release. Stay tuned. After the Batman premiere massacre in Colorado, we can only imagine the security necessary to insure the safety of ZBT viewers.

Insanity Thriving

While reading his news sources this morning, OTR came across another unsettling story focused on perception, reality and world politics. Apparently there is a new fatwa in Egypt that prohibits the owning or driving of the Chevrolet. It seems a Salafi - read "literalist" and "puritan" - sheik has noticed that the Chevrolet logo is actually a representation of the Christian cross and therefore haram or legally forbidden. Though the exact origin of what has become known as the Chevy bow-tie is lost to history, the "threat" itself has been part of our culture for 113 years.

The greater threat from the Chevy logo may be in our future. It seems the Salafi sheik is not alone in Egypt. In fact, the recent elections tell us that fully 25% of the new parliament can identify with him. Fortunately, the internal link in the Moonbattery story indicates that not all Egyptians are sympathetic with such twisted thinking. That's a good sign because history tells us it is difficult at best to deal politically with rampant paranoia and distorted realities, and downright futile to reason with insanity.

News of potentially invasive airport screening by TSA agents is stealing headlines these days, but Americans should be aware of an even greater threat that occurred yesterday in a New York City courtroom. The first "test case" involving a Gitmo-held terrorists was resolved yesterday. The verdict was a victory for terrorism and an indictment of the judicial ineptitude of President Obama and his Attorney General, Eric Holder. This verdict offers nothing but encouragement for future terrorists who, as you read this, are plotting to bring jihad to where you live, work, shop, and worship.

More Weimar History Repeats Itself

Extremism Defined

Sometimes the smaller stories one finds well off the front page really provide us with meaningful definitions of the complex world around us. William Katz (Urgent Agenda) posted one of those stories today about a United Nations effort to bring happiness to children living in Gaza. The old adage, "no good deed goes unpunished," comes to mind. The story also opens a perceptive psychological window on extreme behavior and the challenge it presents to the West.

The Myth Of The Poor, Oppressed Jihadist

. . . Barack Obama clings, like so many willfully blind, to the myth of the poor, oppressed jihadist in the face of years and years of contrary evidence. The "essence" of the 9/11 "tragedy," he wrote days after that attack, "grows out of a climate of poverty and ignornace, helplessness and despair." This woeful misdiagnosis allows the apologist to treat deliberate, carefully planned evil acts of the long-waged Islam war on the West as responses to social injustice.

We should all sleep better knowing that our government will seize assets of the Alavi Foundation, an "alleged front organization" secretly operated by the Iranian government. The Washington Post reports the story here. Scott Johnson, at Powerline, reports on radical Islam in the Twin Cities area and the possibility of similar actions there. I wonder if his report is a real foretaste or just an interesting coincidence.

Multi-Culti Political Correctness And Our "Don't Ask, Don't Kill" Policy In The Military

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley blames the Fort Hood assault on our love of guns. President Obama says it's a matter of cracking over stress. The state-run media talking heads provide deep cover for the counter intuitive blather from the leftists about the "alleged" gunman, the "suspect" Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a "purported" Muslim.

Thanks to the British journalists, we're getting an ever clearer picture that this event was closely linked to radical Islam. Unfortunately, our love of multiculturalism and political correctness has prevented us from seeing what has become a dangerous reality. That this policy infects our military has likely led to the killing and wounding of fifty American soldiers and civilians inside a domestic military base. Even policies have tipping points, and I believe we're rapidly approaching one that will realign our thinking about the PC insanity swirling about us. Perhaps most of us could have lived reasonably with "Don't ask, don't tell," but there is no way we can tolerate "Don't ask, don't kill."
